Designing gardens for living
Down the Maple avenue
The large garden in Alphington was in desperate need of a makeover, with nothing but a large double garage in the back corner and overgrown trees and shrubs around the perimeter.
We started designing the back with new big doors to lead out to the large deck, a spot for the new bbq, and opening the house from inside to out.
Creating a strong visual down the japanese maple avenue to the Lump triptic light box where you can go either side under the steel arbours. Beautiful hedged hornbeams give a solid green wall broken by the roses on one side and the boston ivy behind the garden seat on the other.
Grass area, green hedges, vegetables, all lead to the side with a small shed and carport. Down the other side three large water tanks and the fold out clothesline are easily accessed.
Out the front we replicated the maple avenue from the front path to the verandah. Lawn on either side is then enclosed with curved garden beds full of a wide range of beautiful plants to give interest all year round.
This garden has been part of Rotary’s Designfest Open Gardens scheme.
